Bucket List update!

If you've explored my blog a bit, you might have seen my bucket list a.k.a. my 30 Before 30!  I have been meaning to update this list for quire some time, but never got around to it.........

1. Paint our master bedroom & bathroom.  This is "scheduled" to be done this weekend.  AKA that is when my momma said she would come over to paint our bedroom (it's my birthday gift)!  I plan on painting the bathroom while she does the bedroom.

2. Visit the Grand Canyon.  We went to Sedona, AZ in June 2011 and were able to take a day trip to see the amazing Grand Canyon.  Words cannot describe it.  It looks like a painting even in real life!

3.  Visit Key West and take a picture at the southernmost point.  We visited in March 2011 and had tons of fun.  We spent most of our time "on the mainland" and only 1 night, 2 days in Key West, but we still were able to see a lot!
6. Get rid of antique dining room furniture.  This furniture was handed down to us from my husband's grandparents.  Although it was a nice antique set, it didn't match our decor (AT ALL) and it was way too big for our space.  The dining set was picked up last week to be consigned at a local place and I sold the [non-matching] chairs separately to someone I work with.  Cross your fingers that our dining set sells for a decent price and within the allotted 90 days!

 9. Run a mile.  I finally completed this task in August 2011!  I didn't think I could do it, but I had a great cheerleader, hehe.  That cheerleader would be my hubby and he was very supportive during my slow run!  I'm planning on doing this more often, but so far, I've only gone on two 1-mile runs....
after my first mile run in 8 years!
 11. Try a new food.  This was completed during our trip to Sedona, AZ.  We visited Red Rock BBQ restaurant because it was right down the road from our hotel.  I wasn't planning on trying a new food there, but accidents happen, right?!  My pulled chicken sandwich was served with sweet potato fries (yum!) as well as some sort of deep fried corn.  Obviously the deep fried corn was my new food.  I thought they were hush puppies, but I still don't completely understand what they were...... This pic is courtesy of Google since I didn't have my camera that night.

 20. Organize my recipes.  I'm in the process of doing this, but it's close to being done.  I made a cute binder and I'm now in the [long] process of typing up all of my recipes.  I try to remember to do this while I'm just sitting around, but lately I haven't been sitting around very often!  You can see my binder in this post.

22.  Find a new church.  This is on my list because I haven't been going to church lately.  The reason I haven't been going is because I haven't been feeling like I'm going for me...I've felt like I was going as a duty or obligation.  I want to go to church because I am getting something out of it, not because I am supposed to go.  (Do you like that reverse italicizing?  Pretty smart, eh?)  Either way, I went to a church in my area this past Sunday and really enjoyed it.  I'm still going to try a few others, but I'm on the right path!

28. Get highlights in my hair again. This was crossed off my list in June 2011.  I got a coupon in the mail for 50% off any color services at a nice salon near me (where I also had a massage gift certificate) so I made it a spa day and got a massage and highlights!  I wanted my highlights to be a bit more noticeable, but at least you can't see them growing out now!
Before highlights with my sister-friend Kelli!

After highlights with Kel again! :)

Birthday Update!

Ok, ladies (and the few men who secretly follow....), I went shopping [alone] and was at the mall for a couple hours.  My plan was to do a loop of the shops upstairs and a loop of the shops downstairs.  I had a bunch of gift cards and coupons and was ready to shop!  (Thanks to Katie's post about her great find at Charlotte Russe!)  This is all I left the mall with but I think it's pretty cute :)

My mom met me at the mall for my birthday with an everything bagel and iced cappuccino from Tim Hortons, yum!  She also brought me a super sweet birthday card and a bunch of photos from when I was little....so cute!  I <3 my mom!  Here's a quick, pretty pic of my madre at our wedding:

Also, I wanted to thank Katie of Keep Calm & Carry On.  She featured me on her blog today!  This girl is so sweet, fashionable, fit, and healthy!  I love reading her blog and I'm flattered that she chose to feature mine!  Thanks girlie :)  Head on over and check out her blog!

Fashion Friday!

I hadn't been shopping in a while.  I had a bunch of gift cards (I tent to hoard them...) so I finally convinced myself (pathetic) to go to the mall.  Talk about deals, people!

I was searching for a fun dress to wear for my friend Kelli's bachelorette party that is coming up.  (Kel - I know you'll read this.  MAKE A BLOG already!)  I tried on a bunch and these were my favs:
Dress #1 (Macy's)
Dress #2 (Macy's)

Dress #3 (Macy's)
Dress #4 (Express)

As of yesterday, I only had options 1-3.  Today I stopped by Express for their big semi-annual sale and found option #4 on the clearance rack.  I L-O-V-E dress #3 but it is a bit way more expensive than my clearance find from Express.  I want some honest opinions on these!  I've pretty much crossed options 1 and 2 off but if you like them, let me know!

While at Express, I found some great deals!  I was there yesterday and picked up a cute cardi for $13 (normally $60) and a polo for my hubby (also $13)!  When I got home, I realized the cardi didn't fit in the sleeves so I had to go back today to exchange.  I ended up getting the dress above, a different cardi and a dressy tank....all for $40!  Thanks Express!  :)

I also stopped by Payless.....I found these cuties for only $17!
<3

This is not fashion related but can I just tell you guys how addicting these damn things are?!  I picked them up at Target one day and I can't put them down!  Advice: never shop hungry....even at Target!

Catching up after Spring Break!

I know I haven't posted for a while...I'm still trying to get into the swing of things after spring break!  We had a few flight delays coming home so we got home a day and a half later than expected which caused some stress!  We also had a painter coming Monday to paint a few areas in our house (pics to come soon)!

Now, onto regularly scheduled programming (nerd alert!)....

What I'm wearing Wednesday.  (I'm actually depressed about this because last Wednesday I was in a bikini on the beach) and now it is SNOWING here at home.  Thanks a lot, Ohio.  I'm more than ready for Spring/Summer!!
Coral 3/4 sweater from Macy's, black pants.  (This was before I added accessories.)  Somewhat boring, sorry!
When I got back from vacation, I was overly ready for Spring.  (I have actually been ready since September...)
Anyway, I decided to make a quick, little spring craft.  I've seen rag wreaths on tons of blogs and they look super easy.  I headed to JoAnn's and bought a few fabrics and a sytrofoam wreath form.  I think it turned out cute, but it's really too small for the front door (I bought the biggest size they had, maybe I needed to check somewhere else)!  I decided to go with a yellow theme to create a "sunshine" wreath!

The finished product.  I moved it inside to our coat closet door.
These fabric squares were $1 each!

After reading my Classroom Tour post from last week, Hadar from OUTfitted and INspired asked how I use my "I See" chart.  Here's your answer, Hadar!
My chart is actually a larger version of a book from Hubbard's Cupboard.  I love this sight and get a lot of materials from it for my K/1 kiddos.  I print the color teacher book to use for predictions and inferring.  Next, we use the chart I create for shared reading.  I print keep books for the students to practice reading at home.  For this book, I covered up some of the words and we talked about what we can do to figure out those words (look at the picture, notice patterns in reading, etc.)  The kids were so excited when they guessed the hidden text!  I also usually do a writing response related to the short story.  This week our prompt was "I see" and the students had to write what they saw.  In our writing, we are working on starting sentences with capital letters and ending with periods.  We also talk about how our illustration should match our writing.
